Special Care Dentistry in North Dallas
Meeting Every Patient’s Unique Needs
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry describes special healthcare needs as any condition requiring additional care and consideration within the dental space. At Children’s Dentistry of North Dallas, we understand that every child’s dental needs are unique, especially when it comes to special care dentistry. Our compassionate team specializes in providing comprehensive dental care for children with special healthcare needs, whether they stem from congenital conditions, developmental differences, disease, or trauma. We believe that exceptional dental care should be accessible to every child, which is why our dentists pursue extensive training in special care dentistry to serve our North Dallas community.
Creating a warm, inclusive environment is at the heart of our practice. We take time to understand each child’s specific needs, adapting our approach to ensure comfortable, effective dental care. Our team works closely with parents and caregivers to develop personalized treatment plans that consider all aspects of your child’s health and comfort. With patience, expertise, and genuine care, we help children with special healthcare needs achieve and maintain optimal oral health.
Our Special Care Dentistry Services
Part of our philosophy of care is our SERVE model: safety, education, respect, value, and experience. Each of these aspects plays into our care models, especially so with our special care dental offerings. For many children, the dentist can be scary, especially those with possibly limiting conditions. However, we never want to create a barrier for your child to receive inclusive, accessible, and comforting dental care, which is why we offer a range of specialized dental care practices for patients with additional concerns or needs.
Truly specialized dental care requires additional training and experience. Each of our dentists is committed to the philosophy of care, and has participated in extensive training and continued education in order to provide accessible dental care to all children. One of our most common offerings is our “Tell-Show-Do” technique where we make sure to explain and demonstrate how a treatment will be performed. Then we do the treatment as we described it. Sometimes stuffed animals are used to increase understanding and decrease anxiety and fear. Before each step of the procedure or treatment, our North Dallas pediatric dentists will utilize these stuffed animals to show your child the next step, explain the reasoning behind it, and allow them to have something to cuddle during treatment.
patient Reviews
Our daughter loves going to Children’s Dentistry! They have great, knowledgeable staff. Dr. Holly is wonderful and Dr. Rei as well. They know how to tend to your child’s needs and get them comfortable for every cleaning or procedure that needs to be done. We just moved, but even though they are far, we still go to them. That should say a lot. Heck, my wife and I wished we could even be their patients. That is how good they are. I highly recommend them if you have a child with dental needs. They deserve more than five stars. Ten-plus!
- Adwin T.This is the best pediatric dentistry in Dallas, hands down! The staff is incredibly caring and patient! I have a child with sensory issues who can be difficult and they do so well with getting her to cooperate and helping her through the process. I cannot speak highly enough of this entire team!
- Danae H.Dr. Colven is the kindest most gentle dentist I have ever encountered. He put both my tiny humans at ease and talked with them through the entire appointments. My tiny humans have autism and sensory processing and I would recommend Dr. Colven to any parent looking for a dentist who understands the special needs and delicate hand needed for helping our kiddos through what could be a traumatic experience. The whole practice is amazing and I love the staff.
- Tracy M.We can’t say enough positive things about CDND and Dr. Holly! We have been extra impressed with and appreciative of the COVID precautions they’re taking to keep everyone safe, while continuing to provide great care to our 3 kids, who have all recently been for both regular cleanings and/or extra procedures. Our kids do not fear going to the dentist one bit!
- Avery P.Best pediatric dentist in Texas! Dr. Rei Iwase is the best. She is so cheerful and good with kids, as well as being respectful of our family’s specific health concerns and how that affects our dental treatment. Could not ask for a better dentist for my kids!
- Megan K.We LOVE Dr. Holly. She is amazing and her staff is fantastic. The ONLY thing that’s hard is that everyone else loves her so much that it’s almost impossible to get an appointment in a timely manner. I had to reschedule an appointment three weeks out and ended up having to wait two months for the next opening. I would never stop seeing her because of that…. She just needs to clone herself so there’s enough of her to go around!
