Sedation Dentistry in North Dallas
A Comfort-Based Approach
At Children’s Dentistry of North Dallas, we believe that all patients, no matter their age, deserve a pain and anxiety-free dental appointment. Dental anxiety is a common fear, and it can be addressed through the use of sedation in dental practices. For mild or moderate anxiety, or even young age, simple nitrous oxide conscious sedation may be a good option, as it wears off entirely by the end of the visit. However, for younger children, or those with severe anxiety or a possible disability, we may recommend the use of deep-relaxation IV sedation, which is monitored directly by an anesthesiologist throughout the duration of the appointment. Prior to receiving any sedation, your child will be screened to ensure they are an eligible candidate.
Our Sedation Dentistry Services
Commonly known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide has been a staple in the dental field for many years. This type of sedation is done through a small mask placed over your child’s nose, allowing them to stay conscious, but ease mild to moderate anxiety. At the end of the appointment, all effects of nitrous oxide will disappear, and your child will be able to resume their normal activities.
For patients who may require an additional level of sedation due to age, anxiety, or disability, IV sedation may be a good option. This offers a deep level of relaxation as medication is administered through an IV prior to treatment. Your child is monitored at all times by an anesthesiologist and is screened prior to receiving sedation to ensure they are a good fit.
patient Reviews
Our daughter loves going to Children’s Dentistry! They have great, knowledgeable staff. Dr. Holly is wonderful and Dr. Rei as well. They know how to tend to your child’s needs and get them comfortable for every cleaning or procedure that needs to be done. We just moved, but even though they are far, we still go to them. That should say a lot. Heck, my wife and I wished we could even be their patients. That is how good they are. I highly recommend them if you have a child with dental needs. They deserve more than five stars. Ten-plus!
- Adwin T.This is the best pediatric dentistry in Dallas, hands down! The staff is incredibly caring and patient! I have a child with sensory issues who can be difficult and they do so well with getting her to cooperate and helping her through the process. I cannot speak highly enough of this entire team!
- Danae H.Dr. Colven is the kindest most gentle dentist I have ever encountered. He put both my tiny humans at ease and talked with them through the entire appointments. My tiny humans have autism and sensory processing and I would recommend Dr. Colven to any parent looking for a dentist who understands the special needs and delicate hand needed for helping our kiddos through what could be a traumatic experience. The whole practice is amazing and I love the staff.
- Tracy M.We can’t say enough positive things about CDND and Dr. Holly! We have been extra impressed with and appreciative of the COVID precautions they’re taking to keep everyone safe, while continuing to provide great care to our 3 kids, who have all recently been for both regular cleanings and/or extra procedures. Our kids do not fear going to the dentist one bit!
- Avery P.Best pediatric dentist in Texas! Dr. Rei Iwase is the best. She is so cheerful and good with kids, as well as being respectful of our family’s specific health concerns and how that affects our dental treatment. Could not ask for a better dentist for my kids!
- Megan K.We LOVE Dr. Holly. She is amazing and her staff is fantastic. The ONLY thing that’s hard is that everyone else loves her so much that it’s almost impossible to get an appointment in a timely manner. I had to reschedule an appointment three weeks out and ended up having to wait two months for the next opening. I would never stop seeing her because of that…. She just needs to clone herself so there’s enough of her to go around!
